Dr. Penland was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and is a mom of four. She married her high school sweetheart, Nathan, in 2011, and together they have twin daughters, Harper and Addison, and two sons, Jack and Ben.

She is an avid marathon runner and has competed in races across the country, including the Boston Marathon. Outside of medicine, she enjoys teaching medical students and residents and values time spent with her family.
